The bathroom framework

OK, the place is tiny. I am very aware, as it has become a major challenge during both design and build. But believe it or not, the tower will in fact feature a bathroom with toilet, sink and shower. In order to make it sturdy and contained, I opted for a combination of 50×50 and 50×80 metal beams. As Johan was already present with his magic welding machine, he went to work to secure the frame in place.

But first, In order to sturdily secure the vertical posts, I ordered stainless, custom made “pucks” to thread the posts on. My friend Franke machined the pucks and the worked great:

Good to go! Next step in the bathroom will be pouring the floor ensuring adequate tilt for drainage, floor drain installation and eventually – tiling. I have come across a really cool, flat white button mosaic, influenced by the Paris Metro. Perhaps this can be done summer next year… when we also, hopefully, have the place hooked up to water and sewage.
