Preparing to mount the mezzanine pillars

As spring draws closer, temperatures are rising and so is my ambition to get this show on the road again. I took a decision a few weeks back – I have decided to complete the entry floor and the half-way floor first. The reason for this is that the 6 meter vertical journey up and down the scrawny, beat up aluminum ladder (sometimes with heavy equipment) is just too cumbersome and sometimes dangerous. I will now focus on finishing the entry level and the platform level, then continuing by putting in adequate means of stairs leading all the way up to the top.

Anyway, I have booked an amazing painter dude to come and lay binder and paint on the walls. The reason for this is that he will do it in a fraction of the time it will take me, and most likely at least 10 times better, too. But before he arrives I need to mount the platform pillars, meaning I have to paint the walls behind them.

First pillar in place

The concrete pour has rendered the floor straight, and the walls, way over a century old, do not stray too far off perfect verticality either. Mounting the 100×100 mm steel beams on their welded plates proved to be a quite straightforward affair. The tiles to be used for the floor are of a Moroccan, concrete variety and measure 200×200 mm, just like the base plates of the pillars. Close to midnight, I had all 4 pillars in place. Next up – wall paint. Can’t wait!
