Since the footprint of the tower is pretty small, with interior measurements of 4×4 meters, every square centimeter is a precious commodity. Finding the right staircase has proven very difficult, as it can’t be too wide, has to go clockwise and can’t be too new.
Flabbergasted I was when I came across this beauty at Nacka Byggnadsvård – a 120 cm in diameter, cast iron spiral staircase, salvaged from an old brewery in Stockholm. No balusters, no center spindle and no handrail… but I’m always up for a challenge! Most important is that I have now found a rather central piece of interior – which ticks both the form and function boxes.
